Variety of Work and New Student Club Highlight Year at NJIT

Students from Architecture, CIM and Engineering Departments learn about precast concrete through the new PCI Precast Studio at the School, working with local producers and PCI-MA

The highlights of the 2022-2023 academic year at the New Jersey Institute of Technology Precast Studio led by Mohamed Mahgoub and Gernot Riether included a variety of projects and activities, including:

  1. Starting the second PCI Student Chapter in USA (after Sacramento State).

  2. Participating in PCI Big Beam Competition.

  3. Participating in PCI Foundation Project Precast Competition with six students, including some who were on the team winning the "People's Choice" award

  4. Arranging Field visits to High Concrete, Jersey Precast and Garden State Precast facilities.

  5. All senior projects were precast real projects.

  6. Students made precast concrete panels at High concrete.

  7. Publishing three conference papers about our work.

  8. Having five precast guest speakers.

  9. Having few precast internships to our students and few precast full time jobs.

  10. Preparing a precast high school competition that will take place in the Fall Semester.

  11. Investigating how to build precast micro houses at densely populated areas (senior project, 4th year architecture students).

  12. Using Building Information Modeling (BIM) in precast design to save cost.

  13. Host PCI Foundation Board of Trustees Board Meeting March 22 &23, 2023.

  14. Attending and presenting at PCI-Mid-Atlantic Members Meeting, August 3-4, 2022.

  15. Attending the Precast Show and Committee Days.

  16. Attending Professors Workshop in Miami.
