Students gain an understanding of construction methods and fabrication of precast/prestressed concrete components and become skilled at the use of software used in the precast/prestressed concrete industry.
The first course in the sequence of the PCI Foundation Curriculum grant at UMass Amherst was offered in the Fall 2022 semester. The course Precast/Prestressed Concrete Design (CEE 597PC/ 697PC) was developed and first offered at UMass Amherst this academic year. There were a total of 22 students enrolled in the class, with an even distribution of undergraduate and graduate students (11 undergraduate students and 11 graduate students). In addition to the technical and fundamental knowledge imparted during the course, several opportunities and experiential activities were offered to students related to the precast/prestressed concrete industry.
