The University of Delaware will enter the Precast Studio Nation by establishing a new program for undergraduates and graduate students that will prepare them for careers in the precast industry, with producers, engineers, and regulatory agencies. One of the keystones of UD’s educational model is problem-based learning which will form the foundation for this program.
The specific objectives of the program are to:
educate students on precast materials, design, applications, and benefits to empower them to specify precast on projects following graduation;
immerse students in team-based precast design projects to develop their technical and communication skills;
engage students in personalized mentoring experiences by precast industry professionals that will prepare them for future careers in precast;
provide hands-on educational opportunities for students through participation in co-ops with precast industry partners; and
attract top talent to precast industry by nurturing meaningful interactions between UD students and precast industry professionals.
Assistant Professor, Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering Jovan Tatar joined the Studio Nation Vlog recently to tell us more about his plans for the UD studio.
