Expanding Our Reach

The current students in the materials class at Tulane University were recently treated to a unique look at precast. On March 19th, the students toured one of PCI’s past award winning projects at The Park at South Market in New Orleans, LA. The garage is central to the South Market area of New Orleans and has been a key project for Tindall. Tindall’s Project Manager Sam Briuglio took the students on a tour and shared of how the garage was constructed on a tight site (downtown New Orleans) and some of logistics of getting the pieces to the site.

Aubrey Mitchell, Technical Sales for Tindall, explained some of the conditions of the original design and how Tindall was able to accommodate the owner’s tight specifications for the project.

As a follow-up to the garage tour, PCI Gulf South's executive director Dan Eckenrode taught Precast 101 to the class of students. The students in this class will later have the opportunity to take part in the PCI Foundation sponsored precast studio taught by Kentaro Tsubaki and Charles Jones.

Ensuring that student have at least a rudamentary knowledge of precast concrete going into the studios is one way that the PCI Foundation partners can help ensure that all students on campus benefit with a precast concrete education prior to graduation.
